Members of Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Human Resources team recently joined Floyd Whiting on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss workforce development, employee engagement and the many career opportunities available at the hospital.
Director of Support Services Erin Oetken, HR Development Manager Jennifer Gaona and HR Recruiter Holly Hofer shared insights into the hospital’s ongoing efforts to recruit, develop and retain skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals while helping build the future workforce of Sheridan County.
One of the key topics discussed was the evolving healthcare workforce landscape. While nursing shortages remain a challenge nationwide, Oetken, Gaona and Hofer noted that many healthcare professions—including radiology, respiratory therapy and other specialized roles—have become increasingly difficult to fill in recent years.
To help address these challenges, Sheridan Memorial Hospital has partnered with local schools, Sheridan College and community organizations through workforce development initiatives such as the Career Pathways Partnership. These efforts provide students with opportunities to explore healthcare careers through classroom presentations, hospital tours, mock interviews, internships and other work-based learning experiences.
During the hour-long program, the team also highlighted Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s commitment to helping employees grow their careers and the important role employee engagement plays in retention and organizational success, as well as the value of fostering a supportive workplace culture where employees feel valued and connected to the organization’s mission.
As Sheridan Memorial Hospital continues to expand services and meet the healthcare needs of the region, leaders emphasized that investing in employees and developing future healthcare professionals will remain a top priority.
