Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Education Department offers various resources to the community and includes an assortment of topics, including the American Heart Association (AHA) and Non-AHA courses. These offerings are an opportunity for the public to either obtain or retain required certifications. Classes are offered throughout the year by our team of enthusiastic, highly trained, certified educators.

American Heart Association (AHA) Courses

Basic Life Support (BLS) Renewal

Heartcode BLS skills check out:  Skills check out portion of BLS after completing the online course. This option takes 1 hour.
Go to www.elearning.heart.org to purchase and complete the online course (current cost is $31.00). Bring printed completion certificate to skills check-out. Contact the education office to see available time slots for skills check out.  Cost for check-out is $20.00.      

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Heartcode ACLS skills check out– Skills check out portion of ACLS after completing the online course. This option takes approximately 2 hours.
Go to www.elearning.heart.org to purchase and complete the online course (current cost is $144.00) and bring a printed completion certificate to check-out. Contact the education office to see available time slots.  Cost for check-out is $50.00. 

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Heartcode PALS skills check out: Skills check out portion of PALS after completing the online course. This option takes approximately 2 hours.

Non-AHA Courses

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program course conveys an evidence-based approach to the care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, including online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills (www.aap.org).
This course is a blended learning course that requires Part 1 to be completed prior to an instructor-led event (part 2), which is 3-4 hours of hands-on skills practice and simulation.
Go to https://www.aap.org/en-us/continuing-medical-education/life-support/NRP/Pages/NRP.aspx to purchase the online course, which is approximately $40.00, and the book, which is around $75.00. Call the education department for the availability of the instructor-led event. Cost is $50.00.

S.T.A.B.L.E.

S.T.A.B.L.E. targets the post-resuscitation/pre-transport care of sick neonates and is a follow-up complementary program to NRP.
Non-Employees: Call education for available slots at 307-672-1193. Cost is $125.00, which includes cost of manual or $75.00 if they have their own STABLE manual.

Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)

Non-violent Crisis Intervention is a course supported by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI). This course provides information and equips the learner with the skills, confidence, and framework to safely manage and prevent difficult behavior. This training is effective for staff in the following ways:

  • Helps to boost staff confidence in knowing how to choose the least restrictive intervention
  • Helps comply with regulatory and accreditation guidelines
  • Creates a culture of safety with empathy, compassion, and respect
  • Enhances care and support for staff and patients
  • Helps to improve communication among staff by establishing a common language

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

TNCC is a 2-day course designed to provide core-level trauma knowledge and psychomotor skills associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the trauma patient. Participants must pass a written exam with 80% as well as three skills testing stations.
Call the education office at 307-672-1193 for available slots. Cost is $225.00, which includes cost of manual or $150.00 if the student has the current manual required for class.

Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)

ENPC educates registered nurses caring for acutely ill and injured children. The course teaches participants to recognize the ill or injured child and identify significant yet subtle changes in the less acute child. This course teaches all aspects of pediatric emergency nursing, including but not limited to pediatric trauma and resuscitation.
