Sheridan Memorial Hospital is thrilled to introduce Brielle Pagett, PA-C, as the newest member of our Heart Center team.
A Sheridan native, Pagett’s desire to care for others and passion for science, combined with the example set by her aunt — a physician assistant serving a rural community in Montana — inspired her to pursue a career in medicine and ultimately become a physician assistant.
After graduating from the University of Wyoming in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and health promotion, Pagett went on to earn a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in 2022.
While earning her master’s degree in Colorado, Pagett learned about the wide variety of career paths available to her as a physician assistant.
“This profession is awesome,” she said. “It offers such a wide variety of career paths, and there’s so much flexibility within medicine in terms of the specialties you can pursue. Being a physician assistant allows me to help as many people as possible in so many different, important ways.”
It was during rotations in the inpatient and outpatient pediatric cardiology departments at Children’s Hospital Colorado that Pagett discovered her fascination with cardiovascular medicine and the opportunity to help patients navigate complex heart conditions.
“On the inpatient unit, it was incredibly interesting and challenging to sit in on consultations with families whose newborns had congenital heart defects,” she said. “The students, fellows and residents would come together to learn from each case. We spent a lot of time writing on whiteboards and discussing how different issues affect the cardiovascular system and how we can help ease those effects.”
During her rotation on the outpatient cardiology unit, Pagett gained a deeper appreciation for the breadth and complexity of the specialty.
“There were so many different cardiologists on that unit, and each specialized in a different area of cardiology,” she said. “Some focused on congenital heart defects, while others specialized in heart rhythm disorders, Kawasaki disease and other cardiac conditions. It made me realize there’s so much to learn within cardiology.”
After spending three and a half years caring for patients at One Health Sheridan, Pagett said joining Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s Heart Center was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.
“Being from Sheridan, I’ve always had a love for the hospital,” she said. “I completed four months of clinical rotations here, which gave me the opportunity to build relationships with many of the people who work at the hospital. I’ve also seen firsthand how the Heart Center has a really solid, cohesive team. The providers have worked together for a long time and genuinely seem very satisfied in their roles, which was a huge green flag for me.”
As a physician assistant in the Heart Center, Pagett will help manage a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, perform cardiac stress testing and help monitor and manage cardiac devices such as pacemakers and loop recorders.
Pagett looks forward to offering her patients in the Heart Center the same compassionate, patient-focused care for which she is already known.
“One of the most common things I’ve heard from my patients is that they appreciate the fact that I really listen to what they have to say,” she said. “I also love learning. I think it helps patients to know that if I’m unsure about something, I’m always willing to figure it out with them.”
Outside of work, Pagett enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling with her husband, reading fantasy and science fiction novels, weightlifting and golfing.
