PCOS/PMOS Awareness Month marks one of the most common endocrine disorders in women of reproductive age: polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
PMOS is estimated to affect between 8% and 13% of women of reproductive age. Symptoms of this complex condition show up in different ways. Some women have highly irregular menstrual cycles, while others experience persistent acne and excess hair growth, especially on the face or chest. Some have almost no symptoms and receive their diagnosis during routine checkups.
Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month promotes early detection of and acknowledges the strength of those affected by cancers of the female reproductive system, including the cervix, ovaries, uterus, vagina and vulva.
According to the National Cancer Institute, over 110,000 American women are expected to be diagnosed with a gynecological cancer.
Routine screenings are one of the best tools for prevention and early detection. The Women’s Clinic offers comprehensive cancer screening services, from Pap smears to HPV testing and genetic testing.
