Our surgeons have more than 50 years of combined surgical experience. Improving the quality of women’s care means that the needs of gynecologic surgery are always evolving. All of our surgeons are robotically trained and are advancing what’s possible in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Minimally invasive surgery
Minimally invasive surgery uses small incisions, advanced instruments and specialized techniques to treat many gynecologic conditions. Compared with traditional open surgery, minimally invasive procedures often mean:
- Less pain after surgery
- Smaller scars
- Shorter hospital stays (often same-day discharge)
- Faster recovery times
Whenever possible, our surgeons use minimally invasive techniques—but in certain complex cases, open surgery may still provide the safest outcome. Our providers will work with you to determine the best approach for your individual condition and health goals. Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery is sometimes utilized to treat conditions such as:
- Endometriosis
- Ovarian cysts
- Pelvic masses
- Fibroids
- Adenomyosis
- Chronic pelvic pain
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Postmenopausal bleeding
- Locating or removing an IUD
- Removing adhesions (scar tissue)
- Pelvic organ prolapse
Types of minimally invasive surgery we offer
Our surgeons provide a wide range of advanced gynecologic procedures, including:
Robotic Surgery
A specialized type of laparoscopic surgery is robotic surgery. All of the Sheridan Women’s Clinic physicians have been trained to utilize this technology. Currently three of our surgeons utilize the Da Vinci V robotics platform for procedures such as hysterectomies, endometriosis resections and other complex laparoscopic procedures.
Laparoscopic surgery
In laparoscopic surgery, your surgeon uses special long-handled tools to perform surgery in your pelvis while viewing magnified images from the laparoscope (camera) on a video screen.
Hysteroscopy
A hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows your surgeon to look inside your uterus using a thin, lighted instrument called a hysteroscope. The hysteroscope is inserted through the vagina and cervix, so there are no incisions required. Tiny instruments may be used to biopsy or treat uterine or cervical issues.

Hysterectomy refers to the removal of the uterus and may include the cervix and Fallopian tubes. Hysterectomies can be performed vaginally, laparoscopically, robotically or “open” through an abdominal incision.
Learn more about hysterectomy procedures from The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the video below.
Endometrial ablation
A quick, minimally invasive procedure that destroys the uterine lining to stop or reduce heavy menstrual bleeding.
Polypectomy
A specialized hysteroscope is used to remove or biopsy abnormal tissue in the uterus or cervix.
Myomectomy
A surgical procedure to remove fibroids while preserving the uterus, ideal for women who want to maintain fertility. This can be performed laparoscopically, robotically, hysteroscopically or “open” through an abdominal incision depending on the size, location and number of fibroids to be treated.
