Welch Cancer Center Garden: AmeriCorps Volunteers Build Pathways

Share

The Americorp Volunteers are back in Sheridan from May 26 thru July 10th with Habitat for Humanity as their sponsor. They are here to help Habitat build housing as part of their mission that ranges from rebuilding forest trails in California to helping Seniors in Montana file their taxes. Part of their service is to volunteer in the community in which they are based.

Today four Volunteers gave up their morning off to help rebuild the pathways in the Welch Cancer Center Garden. The WCC garden uses wood chips that are produced by the Sheridan landfill to build pathways throughout the garden. The four volunteers shown in the attached photo 5909 are:

Kevin Emery Greenville, SC Amaya Hampton Alexandria, LA Taya Vacanti Sioux Falls, SD Perry Skaggs Austin, TX

The WCC Garden has 28 plots ranging from 200 to 400 sf and has a total of 8000 sf. It is operated by Hospital employees. The Garden is located on Kentucky just east of the Chemotherapy area picture window so that patients can view the activity while receiving infusion. This is the 4th season that Americorp has rebuilt the pathways.
