The Chartis Center for Rural Health recently celebrated Sheridan Memorial Hospital (SMH) as a 2026 Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital, marking the 10th time SMH has earned the recognition since Chartis began the program in 2016. SMH earned the recognition this year alongside Wyoming’s Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie and St. Johns Health in Jackson.
This national recognition highlights the commitment of rural hospitals to providing excellent, patient-centered care while maintaining strong operational and financial performance in an increasingly complex rural healthcare environment.
“Being named among the Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals is a reflection of the dedication of our providers, staff and volunteers, as well as the trust our community places in us,” said Mike McCafferty, CEO of SMH. “Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s mission is to serve our community, and this recognition affirms our ongoing efforts to expand services, invest in advanced technology and ensure access.”
SMH provides a full continuum of care, including primary and specialty clinics, same-day and emergency care, advanced imaging, surgical services, women’s health, behavioral health and long-term care. Over the past several years, the hospital has expanded access through investments in robotic-assisted surgery, advanced imaging technology and new specialty services such as behavioral health, helping patients receive high-quality treatment close to home.
“The delivery of care within rural communities is perhaps more complex today than at any point in recent memory. This year’s Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals have emerged as true leaders—committed to their mission through a powerful combination of resilience, dedication and innovation,” said Michael Topchik, executive director of The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
