SHERIDAN – Sheridan Memorial Hospital was recently named one of the top 20 rural and community hospitals in the country. This is the third time Sheridan Memorial Hospital has been recognized in the top 20 since 2016, having also earned the recognition in 2017 and 2018.
The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) announced the 20 highest-ranked prospective payment system hospitals in the country based on an evaluation by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, which analyzes approximately 800 healthcare facilities using the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX.
“We are honored to be recognized alongside other exceptional healthcare systems as this reinforces the work we do each day to provide excellent, patient-centered care close to home,” Sheridan Memorial Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty said. “I’m grateful to the teams at SMH that ensure our community can rely on us to deliver high-quality care as part of their healthcare journey.”
Sheridan Memorial Hospital, a county memorial hospital located in Sheridan County, Wyoming, has continued to adapt as the healthcare needs of the community have changed. In the last two years, SMH has expanded partnerships through the lens of its guiding principles, which include value for the customer, respect for every individual and continuous improvement. That growth has included the addition of the SMH Behavioral Health clinic and Spine Center of the Bighorns, alongside expanded access to pediatric, orthopedic, long-term care and other specialty services.
“We take seriously the trust our community places in us and remain committed to ensuring the services we offer in Sheridan County reflect the needs of those who live here and across the region,” McCafferty said. “We will continue to reinvest in our facilities, service lines and our people to provide the best possible experience for our patients and their families.”
The determining factors for the NRHA top 20 rural and community hospitals are based on eight indices: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and finance.
