SHERIDAN — On Tuesday, March 3, the Sheridan County Commission approved an affiliation and services agreement that lays the groundwork for Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s strategic partnership with Billings Clinic — a step designed to strengthen local healthcare and preserve our independence as a county memorial hospital.
SMH began exploring an affiliation with Billings Clinic last year, hosting community forums and stakeholder meetings to discuss the evolving dynamics of the healthcare industry and the growing pressures facing rural health systems.
A new entity, Sheridan Health, has been formed as a Wyoming nonprofit corporation to facilitate the affiliation, which brings together the best of our community leadership and industry expertise to continue serving patients in northern Wyoming.
“Sheridan Memorial Hospital is creating a long-term strategy for supporting our mission of providing excellent, patient-centered care,” said Mike McCafferty, CEO of SMH. “This strategy — along with other initiatives we will pursue in the future — gives Sheridan Memorial Hospital the strength and stability needed to continue delivering high-quality care close to home.”
The affiliation with Billings Clinic creates opportunities for both organizations to collaborate more closely on clinical programs, technology and operational support. The partnership also positions Sheridan Memorial Hospital to realize meaningful cost efficiencies. Working together, the organizations will be able to explore group purchasing opportunities and collaborative investments in technology and infrastructure. These efforts can help reduce costs related to medical supplies, equipment and information systems while allowing SMH to maintain high standards of care.
“By working together, Sheridan Memorial Hospital and Billings Clinic can better navigate the challenges facing rural healthcare and ensure long-term sustainability for the services patients rely on,” McCafferty said.
