Alice Shaw developed a passion for helping others at an early age while growing up in Michigan, inspired by the examples set by her mother, an emergency room nurse, and her father, a firefighter.
She attended Southwestern Michigan College, where she quickly distinguished herself among classmates pursuing an associate degree in nursing. Selected as one of just 12 candidates from a pool of more than 300 applicants, Shaw entered a highly competitive nursing program that led directly to a position in the intensive care unit after graduation.
After several years at the bedside, Shaw decided to expand her scope of practice by returning to school to become a nurse practitioner. Along the way, she gained experience in family medicine, endocrinology and internal medicine, building a well-rounded clinical background that now supports her work in urgent care.
Shaw first came to Sheridan as a travel nurse in 2013 and returned again in 2014 and 2019. She said her decision to join Sheridan Memorial Hospital was shaped by her experiences as an ICU nurse, where providers valued collaboration, listened to nurses’ clinical insights and worked together to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.
Outside of the clinic, Shaw enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs – Neddy, an English bulldog, and Josey, a yellow lab. Her hobbies include camping, hiking, jeeping, crafting T-shirt designs with her Cricut and soap making.
