About Sean Schoonover
Sean Schoonover has served as Dr. Ulibarri’s physician assistant for more than nine years. He specializes in general orthopedics, neurosurgery and spine with a focus on cervical, thoracic, lumbar and spinal interventions.

Schoonover delivers direct patient care through in-office procedures, including large and small joint, trigger point and trochanteric (hip) bursitis injections. One of his many strengths lies in helping patients manage and find relief for muscle strains and tightness, acute spine related pain, chronic inflammation and the pain associated with degenerative joints and spine. Additionally, Schoonover supports Dr. Ulibarri by assisting in surgery and performing new patient evaluations, follow-up care, fracture management and post-surgical patient care.

Schoonover earned his bachelor’s degree in physiology with a minor in neuroscience from University of Wyoming, where he played baseball and met his future wife. He went on to earn his associate degree in surgical technology at Laramie County Community College, serving for three years as a certified surgical technologist across the Rocky Mountain West.

Schoonover earned a coveted spot in Northern Arizona University’s (NAU) physician assistant program, where he studied alongside University of Arizona medical and NAU physical therapy students. While at NAU he completed specialty rotations in neurosurgical, plastics, orthopedics, general surgery, vascular and oncological surgery. He was later recruited by Mayo Clinic’s neurosurgical team of internationally recognized spine surgeons, and worked on large cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal cases, as well as spinal tumors and rare patient cases.

Schoonover and his wife, a registered nurse who serves as Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s emergency room trauma coordinator, returned to Wyoming after the birth of their first child. They live in Sheridan with their three young, active children, and two dogs. During his free time, he enjoys playing golf, hunting, fishing, hiking and collecting sports memorabilia and baseball cards.
