Sheridan Memorial Hospital Director of Philanthropy Liz Dearcorn and Director of Behavioral Health Brittany Goodvin recently joined Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the hospital’s new behavioral health center and the growing need for accessible mental health services in Sheridan County.
During the interview, Dearcorn reflected on the community’s enthusiastic response to the center’s grand opening, describing the open house as the culmination of years of planning, fundraising and collaboration. She emphasized that the project was made possible through strong local support and represents a long-term investment in improving behavioral healthcare close to home.
Goodvin shared that providing local behavioral health services has been a vision of Sheridan Memorial Hospital’s leadership for many years. She explained that the new center is designed to offer a full continuum of care, including outpatient psychiatry, crisis stabilization and future inpatient behavioral health services, allowing patients to receive treatment in their own community rather than traveling elsewhere.
A major focus of the conversation centered on reducing the stigma surrounding mental health. Goodvin explained that the Path Behavioral Health Center was intentionally designed to feel welcoming and integrated with the rest of the hospital, reinforcing that mental healthcare is healthcare. The center’s name reflects the idea that recovery is a journey, while its design and services aim to create a respectful, safe and supportive environment for patients and their families.
