COLORECTAL CANCER IS PREVENTABLE

The American Cancer Society reports that colorectal cancer is a leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.

The good news - it can be prevented through screening.  The death rate has been dropping over the last several decades, most likely due to finding more polyps through screenings.

In general, both men and women should begin getting cancer screenings at age 50.  The most common screening is a colonoscopy.  For more detailed information on screening recommendations see what the American Cancer Society says.

Remember to talk with your physician about your medical and family history, possible risk factors and symptoms to determine when you should begin screening.  Also, reduce your risk by living an active, healthy lifestyle and eating a nutritious and well-balanced diet.
