As a community, we are fortunate to have access to the state-of-the art technology and equipment available at the Welch Cancer Center. Individual treatment plans are developed for each patient.
Our medical oncology staff provides chemotherapy treatments through IV infusion to patients in a relaxing environment. We work with each patient to provide personalized treatments. We have almost every type of chemotherapy treatment available.
Chemotherapy is considered a systemic cancer treatment because cancer-fighting drugs circulate in the body through the blood to places where the cancer may have spread in order to kill the cancer cells. The IV usually consists of a combination of drugs that is right for the individual patient, specifically combined to fight their cancer. Chemotherapy can also be administered orally.
Many times side effects associated with chemotherapy can be easily prevented or controlled, allowing patients to work, travel, and participate in many of their other normal activities while receiving chemotherapy.
